意味は
「〜だと思う」です。

I think that he is kind.
私は彼は親切だと思います。

I think that she will come here.
私は彼女はここに来ると思います。

that は省略できるので、ふだんは

I think he is kind.
I think she will come here.

のように書くことが多いです。

時制とthat節

① 今のこと・いつものことを「〜だと思う」
→ 現在形
I think (that) she is busy.
彼女はいそがしいと思います。

I think (that) this book is interesting.
この本はおもしろいと思います。

② 未来のことを「〜すると思う」
→ will ＋動詞の原形
I think (that) he will come tomorrow.
彼はあした来ると思います。

We think (that) it will rain this afternoon.
今日の午後は雨が降ると思います。

③ 過去のことについて「〜だったと思う」
→ 過去形
I think (that) he was sick yesterday.
彼はきのう病気だったと思います。

She thinks (that) they were in the park.
彼女は彼らは公園にいたと思っています。

※ 自分の今の考えなので think は現在形，中身の「いた・だった」は過去形です。

主語が変わると

• I think (that) 〜.　私は〜だと思う。
• He thinks (that) 〜.　彼は〜だと思っています。
• They think (that) 〜.　彼らは〜だと思っています。

主語が三人称・単数のときは thinks になるのがポイントです。

hope thatとの違い

• hope that S 動詞
  S が〜だといいなと思う（ねがい）
• think that S 動詞
  S が〜だと思う（考え・意見）

例
I hope that he will pass the test.
彼がテストに合格するといいな。

I think that he will pass the test.
彼はテストに合格すると思います。
